For another good reason to bomb France:

Dec 03, 2005 15:35

The entirely overly powerful French Department of Culture which has a fairly successful track record when it comes to throwing the brakes onto nearly every attempt the French people have made to cease being a 3rd World country and advance to 1st World status, is now lobbying the French Parliament to make it a crime for a French citizen to publish ( Read more... )

But if you bomb France... real_skeptic December 3 2005, 22:30:44 UTC
...wouldn't that mean Good Bye Mandrake, as well?

By the way, it's Mandriva. And half of their business is in Brasil.

Thought it was in France for some reason. Why the name change? I'm just about done keeping up with all the different distros, to many of them to care anymore. I'll just stick with the one for now unless it ticks me off.

Well, basically it is in France. They have merged with Connectiva which is in Brasil, and now they call themselves "Mandriva" as a result. So theoretically, if they are threatened in France, they could move their core business to Brasil.

I know how you feel about the distros. It's just that the one distro that I chose is Mandriva...

By the way, Mandriva won some government contracts, as far as I know, so I don't think they are so likely to be swept away by this ridiculous "the only culture worth having is one that earns money". I wonder if Saint-Exupery is not part of their culture...

it sorta scares me that the distro I moved off of due to many numerous issues which pissed me off regularly is probably among the best positioned to get tons of contracts. SuSE had some really good ideas and a lot of good utilities, but when it came to building a distro there was a lot Nazi control placed on it. You have to be a damn good programmer with extensive knowledge of 100's of programs to actually break the mold on that distro and actually customize it. It's a great started distro, but don't think about doing something totally wierd like actually expecting the Squirrel Mail package actually included on the DVD to work with the IMAP server included on the same DVD. No you have to compile your own. Did I mention how hard it is to actually make SuSE compile ANYTHING ( ... )

Would it bother you... naruki_oni December 4 2005, 05:00:17 UTC
to see someone start a post with "For another good reason to bomb America:"?

I know it would bother me, even though there are better and far more reasons for that one.

Bother me? Maybe maybe not. My experience as an American tells me that if I were to object to a post that said "For another good reason to bomb America:" that I would be chastised and would have an entire army of people from various nations telling me how I was wrong to object, and how America really did need to be bombed, unlike my post which only said bombing in jest. I don't really think we should bomb the French. I do think that their people live under a system of way to much government control, but I don't hear them objecting to it. I don't know if this is because they're okay with it, or they're not allowed to object, or have just had to much wine to care, but the rest of the world is allowed to voice what they feel about the US, so I suppose it should only be okay that we're allowed to voice what we feel about them.

out of curiosity I did some searching:
petition to bomb the US I did like this reply: 44 miguel Come guys don't bomb america it's bad for the cocaine business.

Let's not forget how the French say thanksNope ( ... )

"Because you don't start with "bomb the French government". You start with the entire country. You know the one that helped us win independence from England and gave us our primary symbol of freedom"

Now, was it the entire country of France that helped with that independence business, or was it just the French government?
