Interesting, why the company I helped start sold its soul to SCO.

I haven't had enough time to read the whole thing, but I will later. I'm at a coffee shop I swear is doing WiFi with a dial up backend. I'll read it all later when I get access at home, so this is as much a book mark for me as much as anything.

How EV1 sold its soul.

Because SCO said "Pay up, or we'll send da boyz round. It's eight anna half million bucks da first year, anna mill anna half every year after dat." When EV1 (quite naturally) panicked, they got a *90%* discount, and lost the recurring fees, in return for which SCO demanded publicity, and then reneged on their "promise" to be restrained and not mention the price - and, indeed, quoted the price they'd demanded as if it were what they GOT.

To be fair to the head of EV1, he rapidly wised up when given the facts - but by then it was too late...

Sorry, gonna have a hard time being fair to him. His multiple "Don't read it sign it" approaches, tantrums, and outright lies are the reason I left the company.

I can see the panic, but I just can't back them on this one.

So... a man much given to "Just sign it!" approaches got stung by being told "Just sign it!". One could call that poetic...

I didn't think of it that way, but you're right.

The don't read it sign it thing happened this way, I can't remember if it was two or three times, but he came up to my desk, and the desk of various other people with a piece of paper folded to where all I could see was the signature line. He said "Don't read it, sign it" then would hand me a check for $150 - $350. My guess has always been it waived my right to sue him for his unfair overtime, break, and lunch practices, there were many labor law violations in that joint in the early days.
