Applying the squishy fireplace edging to babyproof the little ledge that is conveniently at the boy's head-height when he is crawling. I look over and Connor is on his stomach, army crawling his way towards a derailed portion of the animal train ( Read more... )

see, you dress him in the little Bonds convict onesie, and then it all fits!

Having seen the Little Man do this tonight while you were at the store, and appropriate "Yay"ing and clapping him, I foresee the same as you - time to break out the cable trays and the gates!

This will require a trip to the noxiously annoying baby store. *bleh* The last time I was there, they had taken down the gates that they had out for demos. :/

I'm still thinking 4 - bottom of the stairs, entrance to the hallway, and both kitchen entrances. Sound right to you?

And I don't know what to do about the tv cable. Do we just need more of the cable holders?

don't forget the top of the stairs as well. you'll need it eventually anyway.

how do you gate a doorway that was formerly a sliding door? the add-on done to this house left that rather large entrance to our living room from the kitchen.

The top of the stairs is un-gateable. It's a wide spanse that would require us tying a gate in to the bannister spindle, and I'm not comfortable with that. Plus we have a split entry way - walk in on a landing, go down 6 steps to the family room and downstairs, or up 5 steps to the living room and another three oddly-shaped steps to the kitchen.

I think I just have to take pictures, because I don't even understand that... :)

The two kitchen entrances will keep him contained while we're in there. The upstairs hallway will keep him in his room and our room. The downstairs gate will keep him in the family room/office/laundry room area.

I'm trying to keep him out of the dining room and living room upstairs, because there's an awful lot of steps with bannisters all around. It's funny - we built this house with a family in mind, but the layout isn't exactly child friendly. :/
