Today I found out a friend that I knew from high school and college was killed while riding his bike up in Seattle. I was saddened to hear about his death, and shocked, but I hadn't even seen him since 91. The thing that has been weird is how there have been all these emails back and forth between friends and people I barely know from high school ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Facebook is great for getting back in touch with everyone, including the people you don't even remember. I've had a fair amount of anxiety about it too, especially around the people who I haven't seen since I got fat. I was a skinny minnie until after moving to SF so there are bunches of folks who've never seen me as a fat person. That makes me want to hide under a rock rather than meet up with them ever again.

I didn't stay close to home but I have strong connections with people from grade school on. Mostly because we were all members of the same church and therefore lived in the same universe, networked across the US and beyond. So many of my friends from high school (from all over CA and beyond) had parents who went to school with my parents back in the day.

I was thinking about going to the service and seeing everyone see lots of gray on my head and my hairy legs. I guess I can wear pants if I really care about that. It's just weird...I don't have insecurities about how I look most of the time...well, to the same extent.

LOL, I think about the same things. You should SEE how gray my hair is now! In the end I always decide to go as myself rather than in costume. And then it's over, and I remember the good parts. :)
