I spent Christmas in Florida one year near Port St. Lucie. My grandparents used to live there. It was so strange to have a hot Christmas! I didn't like it but I'm a fan of cold. :) Where do you buy your tree? I saw nice ones at Lowe's.

Your family puts up a New Year's tree? Yes, X-Mas is a common abbreviation here. If you're a believer, I can understand how it's upsetting. Non-believers get upset with nativity scenes in public places, government buildings, etc. Every year, some major debate and court cases over this.

Debate, really?
As far as I know, "X" is a Greek letter which begins the word "Christ" in Greek language.
So, "X-mas" means... "Christmas". It's the same, isn't it?

Your explanation of the "X" is correct; however, religious people don't like that "Christ" is removed from the word, particularly on this occasion which celebrates his birth. Many consider it disrespectful to use the "X" in place of the name. I'm not religious, so I could care less. I celebrate Christmas in a very secular manner. And what about you? You are anti-social even at the holidays? :))

Oh, your decorations are so nice! I love it! I even started to think about buying X-mas tree myself for this year after your post :) Thank you for sharing the real Christmas mood!

It's so nice to come home to my apartment each night and light up the tree after a hard work day. I wish my apartment had a fireplace, it would be even more cozy! I hope you get a tree. Please send me a photo if you do. :) You can buy cheap ornaments at Walmart or Target if you don't have any.

I can imagine! We even have an electric fireplace :) I guess I'll try to make some ornaments myself and definitely will send you a picture as soon as ready!

We have a fake tree (a pine, actually) and don't have particular traditions.

I like the post! Thank you! It's very interesting. I wonder whether is such a place in Russia where you can choose and cut a tree? I don't know one.

You're welcome! I'm glad you liked the post. I don't know if such places exist in Russia. People who put up live trees must get them from somewhere? :)

One part of them buy trees at the markets and second part go to the forest and cut off a tree. They are poachers.
