There were a lot of things one came to expect as an Empirium protector. In Steel's experience, the Assassins always came first; they were justifiably headstrong, and fast, and used the shadows to their advantage. They were her weakness - and the Guilds knew that Crusaders such as she tended to struggle in their lumbering armour.
When the door whispered open behind her, the softest, sweetest sound of nervous breath on the air, she didn't turn. If she couldn't have the advantage of speed over him, she would simply employ the element of surprise.
That was then the talons went tearing between the dark wings on her head, grabbed clawfuls of scalp and hair and let forth a screech that pained her ears. All thought stopped in favour of searing pain, and she brought her hands to her head, jerking away from the falcon with a cry.
A HunterThe bird was gone again, beating its wings hard and circling back around - going for her eyes. The Haeddongum sword was heavy in her hand when she swung it up and forced the falcon to swerve or be cloven in

Stupid pretty bird. Down it fell, crashing down and tumbling, it's body thumping solidly against the floor and kicking up a plume of dust. Feathers followed it down, embraced its body like petals on a grave. It twitched, physically shattered.
Steel came to stand near it, saw its eye move to focus on her; it spat out a strip of cloth, stolen from her sleeve as it tore past, and it cried for its master. Foolish creature. And somewhere, in the dark, its owner would surely be watching, listening.
Step b-back! O-or else!... Perhaps not so stealthily. Another light ignited behind her, and Steel slowly turned; there, behind the fiery head of an arrow, behind the poised Ballista, the Hunter

The hand that crept to a pocket was as far from subtle as could be, and Steel's eyes immediately latched on it. She snatched Kazu's wrist, grabbed the other for consistency, and slammed them both high above her head - up as high as she could make her stretch. It brought them close, so close she could taste the girl's breath, could feel the body arch against her own, and she smirked down at her, pressed into her. She felt so very small - indeed, nothing but a bug in the grass to toy with and torture. "If you really want to go home, Kazu, you will do as I say. My word is the Lord's; defy me, and you will invoke His wrath through me
( ... )
When Kazu pulled down against her with all of her weight, Steel quite suddenly let her arm drop, let those wrists plummet in her hand and send the Hunter's body down. She hit the floor with a slap of bone and leather and skin, and Steel fell upon her like a wraith; the shredded material of her worn outfit playing over them both like a ghost. Kazu's slim wrists were pressed against the hot Empirium and Steel's face came inches from her own. Yes, she was right; it was much more comfortable on the floor
( ... )
Too much. The birdie sang too loud and too hard, and her shrill voice got on Steel's nerves. Scowling, she drew her hand far back and swung it down at full force across Kazu's face; it was the only way to silence her, to make her comply, to teach her to obey!
There was a firm crack of flesh and bone, the impact so sharp it made the back of her hand sting. "Stop your complaining, you pathetic girl!"
And of course, she couldn't keep her little hands still, could she? The Devil made work for them even now, when there really was no subtle way for Kazu to bring her arms down from above her head to reach for her pouch. Steel was bound to catch sight of it.
She seized Kazu's wrists, folded them into one of her hands and slammed them back against the floor again. She used that firm ground to lift herself up, towering over the poor girl's sprawled form. "So shallow, people like you. Always think about yourselves and never the greater good! What about God's work? What about your servitude and your adoration
( ... )
Oh, but she did look so sweet with her skin flushing like that, the way she mewled and squirmed without really fighting. She could tug at the wrists, pull her legs tight against Steel's sides, but that was it. No more than that. She didn't have the strength left.
The Crusader leaned forward slowly, brushed her lips across a damp and bruised cheek, and she laughed softly. "Sssh, girl. Sssh." She fingered at the flimsy cotton underwear, hooked a finger inside to run across the soft flesh beneath. Mmm, and she was warm, pleasantly so... and a little damp, a little wet. Was that sweat, or...?
"If you don't fight, I'll be nice and gentle." Her breaths were a little heavier, damp over Kazu's nose, her eyelids as she kissed her. It was the only thing she could think of to soothe the girl. After all, Steel's intentions were quite obvious - and Kazu's pleasure was quite the factor.
"God will love you, now. Is it really so terrible?"
"God is my mother, my father, my partner, my friend! His love flows through me always, unlike you Godless filth with your neverending carousel of whores, liars who claim to love you as nobody else can! Only His love can complete me! Only His love can complete anyone
( ... )
That was better - the way her slender hips rose, the way her body began to accept Steel and open to her. She could feel Kazu's pelvis angling as she pushed into her, delighting in the wet sounds of her gasps and harsh breaths.
If only that could be the only sounds she made, the only movements. The touch against her face was too soft and piteous, and her expression tightened against her gentle fingers.
"I already told you." She punctuated her pause and her meaning with a sharp thrust in, something slick as Kazu's tense muscles began to unfurl with arousal, something that was cruel, but not so brutal as she had been before. Just the threat of more, the threat of pain if she so wished it. "No more words, and do not touch me. Your hands are disgusting to me."
Her lips curved a little, sadistic, demented, as her thumb brushed in soft, little circles that punctuated her thrusts. Change of subject. "You're starting to like this."
She hadn't considered the wings a weakness - hadn't considered them at all, actually, not since the bird had gone for them much earlier. It wasn't hard to fathom what she'd done, why she'd done it; Steel had to play into her hands on that one.
But the stupid girl still wouldn't get away!
She dropped her hands from Kazu's form to push the wings back up on her head, 'ooph'ing and buckling as her captive clambered over one heavy shoulderplate. She reached up over her shoulder, felt an ankle - and, as she felt it kick and crawl, she yanked on it, hard, ready to catch her in any state she might fall in.
"Don't bother! Nobody can hear you here!" Stumbling, she grit her teeth. "Do you want to go tumbling down the stairs with me?! Even with just a few steps, I could crush you!"
The steady thud-thuds of small fists on her chestplate were nothing but a vibration, something that made her looked down at the pitiful girl with utter contempt. How dare she, after all Steel had done for her, how dare she defy her will!
She growled low in her throat, fisting a hand in Kazu's hair to keep her to her chest, her other arm cradling the rest of her. If she fought, she'd get a nice, hard pull, right at the roots; let's see how well that worked, at least until Steel could fit her with a disciplinary collar, something a little more formal.
"Why you?" She smirked, working her way up the uneven, endless steps. "Because you needed to learn. I knew it the second I saw you come in; a little, confused girl, lost in the dark. Trying to be brave in a game that could kill her. I doubt you've ever even seen Empirium before today."
People in the church. The Divine Order. She supposed they'd be a little mad if she lost the castle for them, but really - they'd been pressuring her to find a nice pet for months. They all toted such
