Percy's Shower

Percy is outside right now - he was running around the garden earlier, but since I am now inside Kevin is going to bring him in. He is so prickly he sticks me even THROUGH a pair of heavy duty gloves! He is the sharpest hedgehog I have ever held. He's lethal! LOL ( Read more... )

How well do hedgehogs swim? I saw a video of one in a bathtub, and it looked sometimes like the hedgehog was having a hard time of it. But then he rolled over and seemed more relaxed just floating on his back, so I'm not sure here.

Hedgehogs swim very well, and we often use swimming as a form of physiotherapy for leg or hip injuries. The question is - do they LIKE to swim? Some seem to enjoy it more than others, but none freak out or anything.

The big problem with hedgehogs and water is that once they are in water they generally can't get back out. That's why we tell people who have a water feature or a pond to put an escape ramp in in case a hog or other animal falls in.

I am *really* going to miss Percy and I hope to Tyr his abusers get what they deserve on October 4th for their trial. When he gets settled at Brian May's garden in the spring I will get to visit him.

It is not wise for a hedgehog to use an inflatable flotation device! It always ends in disaster. Balloons at birthday parties are also a no-no! ;-D

And this icon is of Percy! :-) He's a very handsome boy.
