I always wonder what would have happened if Chamberlain and Daladier had not been so supine. Czechoslovakia could have given the 1938 German Army a body blow, and if backed up by France and Britain, crushed Germany or at least fought it to a standstill, possibly even dissuading Italy and Hungary from supporting it militarily. Poland, too, profited (in a small way) from the downfall of Czechoslovakia. If Poland, France, and Britain had backed the Czechs against Austro-Germany, the Second World War would have been stifled in its cradle. This is the difference that great leaders (or their absence) make in history (IMO).
