If Peace Corps is going to be concerned about your knee, they're probably going to give you a specific form(s) they want you fill out about it.

If you're about to be uninsured, I'd suggest finding a Federally Qualified Health Center near you. FQHCs see uninsured patients charge based on income and will see you regardless of your ability to pay.

You can find a FQHC by entering your address at the following link: http://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/Search_HCC.aspx

Given how piecemeal the medical packet is, I'd be awfully curious to see how "specific" any forms that they might send me are, but that isn't the subject here anyways. What I'm concerned about is tests, MRIs, x-rays, etc, which can go up to several hundred dollars.

For me, I indicated that I had asthma and had previously been in mental health counseling. After I completed the medical packet, I had to turn in an asthma form and a mental health counseling form that had to be filled out before I got medical clearance.

I didn't have knee problems, and so I don't know what forms, tests, procedures, etc might be required for PC, but for other conditions they can get pretty specific.

I currently volunteer at a Federally Qualified Health Center and at least at my clinc we have sliding fee scales available for those without insurance or with low incomes. If you have a FQHC in your area you can call them up and ask about a sliding fee scale payment option and what you would need to qualify for it.

Ha! I never could of guessed what PC wanted....I had to prove I didn't have diseases I never said I had! The doctor actually had to look some of them up because they were so obscure...so don't waste money now guessing cause they could do nothing or could ask for ridiculous stuff. The neuro that I got to do my paperwork couldn't for the life of her figure out why PC would ask the questions (because if they had any medical knowledge they wouldn't ask things like did that congenital problem happen before or after birth and how? They also asked if I had a gate....not a GAIT but a gate in my leg...they also informed me that a cosmetic surgery I had when I was 13 (from a birth problem) was because I had another disease that was completely unrelated AND I never said I had it!

I will tell you that after 19 months I did go to Namibia and had the experience of my life...so wait it out and if they want more go to a FQHC....or in my case the doctor thought it was so ridiculous she comped my visit!

Maybe I have better odds of guessing the state lottery numbers. LOL. That'd at least pay my bills.
