God, the Tony Awards make me want to puke sometimes. They always have their certain favorites, and that play/musical will win everything. And it's ridiculous, because no show is that good except maybe PoTO.
Meh. Maybe it's the 'new Rent' (or if I was up to properly mocking... Lease or whatever) but the storyline doesn't capture me. And the songs... not so much that I can play them as I drive.
Or as I'm fond of pointing out... maybe I'm too old for the whole simulated sex on the stage concept. ;)
Um... t'was a relatively crowded field this year - with Ms Ebersole getting fantastic reviews early, and then successively: Ms Monk, Ms Murphy and Ms McDonald. Unfortunately, that left 'one' slot for 'everyone else' -- inclusive of Ms Chenoweth, and Ms Block, and Ms Bundy and Ms Brown etcetera etcetera...
I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of nomination, but understand it as well - if one views the Tony's as a 'PR vehicle' (plus award) then gaining a nomination/win will help boost a running production versus TAT having closed on a limited run.
Thanks for posting all the nominations - I hadn't seen them yet.
Gah Broadway politics - am incredibly surprised Kristin didn't get the nomination for The Apple Tree. She must have really pissed off some Tony-voters at some point, because IMH (and frequently unpopular) opinion, she also deserved the award for 'Wicked'. Poor Kris - but hopefully TAT will win 'Best Revival' (had hoped Kris would win Best Actress & 'Company' would take Best Revival but apparently I don't get to pick the winners? *is shocked*).
I love Spring Awakening, though - the songs in particular - so I'm very pleased and not at all surprised to see it nominated for pretty much everything. Have seen the boots of Legally Blonde and whilst I do think its fun, I don't think Laura deserved that nomination. Unless it was a nomination for having a fair-to-middling fine arse ;) LBB - in my mind, she was Kristin's stand-by for a reason lol. Don't think she will win.

:: shrug :: I haven't seen Spring Awakening, and probably won't. I'm contrary that way... ;)

Same here. The only reason I even knew it was existed was because Rosie did a talk in NYC with some of the cast members from SA and Degrassi.
