Absolutely fantastic. Loved it.

Especially this: Boy’s fine, he tries to tell that fool again. John's voice throughout this entire story was just perfect, but that line in particular struck a chord with me.

Dragons, that was just wonderful - it kind of hurts, but still wonderful. I love all the little details, like John trying to convince himself Mary would be proud, Dean playing with the pen while working, the way he can still play pool like nobody's business even when he's plastered, and the racehorse piss (which, hah!).

Parenting is a minefield, and John damn well knows it. Never let it be said that reading/listening to anybody think/talk about Dean doesn't thrill me and John weaving through the minefield is especially thrilling. Liked the reflection in the mirror, it never quite lets us get away with too much bullshit does it.

I love this. LOVE your writing, and John's train of thoughts. It's just like the John in my head (except in my head he wears MUCH less clothes), the kind of tough, twisted, tired, weary, caring, awesome bastard. The way of writing, the way you have details like the crowlines Mary will never touch, and the way he talks to himself in the mirror. Ah man. Love, dragonz. Memeing this.
