My Happy For The Week

I know we've all seen this footage a billion times in the last few days, but sweet merciful pancakes, people. Florencio Avalos has this split-second whispery huff-of-a-smile at about 1:07 when he catches sight of his son and it still just slays me dead every time.

I cannot watch any of that footage without weeping like a baby, yet I keep watching, and watching, and now here I am dropping tears all over my keyboard again. PEOPLE LOVE EACH OTHER. It's amazing.

I was on tenterhooks the whole rescue waiting for a catastrophic technical failure or another cave-in halfway through. This is going down as my feel-good piece of news for the year.

THEY ARGUED OVER WHO GOT TO GO OUT LAST.

I fangirl these men hard.

I just wanted this on my el-jay to go back to when I hate people in general.

Mettle -- they has it.

These men are heroes, their survival is so freaking inspiring. I was teary watching the rescue live on Euronews, it seemed like a miracle that they all made it out alive. I hope that their experience will prevent accidents of this kind in the future.

I know, right? I was terrified they'd get half out and something would go wrong and it would all go pear-shaped and be such a bitter-sweet horrible story.

Everyone involved deserves a giant cold frothy beer and a clap on the back from EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON EARTH.

And yes. God. I hope they can take this experience and help other people in the future.

I was holding my breath too. It just... it feels amazing that instead of getting cabin fever these people united and had what was best in humanity, you know? And they got out. Thank god they got out.
