Thanks, T. It felt a little sappy at first, but it's how I felt so I stayed with it.
As far as projects go, if I need external funding from Peace Corps, there's something called the Peace Corps Partnership Program that you can petition outsider donors for. At the moment I don't have any projects in, but I will let you know! Thank you for the thought. :)
Thanks for this. Absolutely heartbreaking. And thank you for the work you're doing. The head of PMI, Admiral Timothy Zeimer, just wrote an exceptionally flattering email to the Peace Corps Director regarding the work that David and yourself are doing in Ghana with malaria prevention in the homeless communities. I couldn't be more proud of the way you're representing Peace Corps and the work you're doing to help under-served communities.

Thank you, Matt. That's really nice to hear! I will be sure to pass that along to David and the other volunteers who put countless hours into that project (and far more work than I did - I consider myself lucky to have been able to step in and help where I did, it was a cool experience). And thank you, too, for all the hard work you've done as a volunteer and now a supervisor - you guys have set a nice path up for us to follow.
Thanks, Florha. I always appreciate you and David's prayers and encouraging words. I'm so lucky to be where I am and even more to be doing what I'm doing. Love you both - give David a hug for me.
Thank you! And you know I always appreciate the prayers and support you guys offer back home. It does seem like an incredibly simple solution - and in some ways it is - but there's so much more going on than my little blog can address.
That being said, we should focus on what we can do, which is talk to our elected officials about supporting malaria-related projects, donating a little bit of time and money here and there. I just saw a picture of a coffee shop in North Carolina who hung a mosquito net over their cash register. I assume they'll be collecting tips today and possibly even donating to the organization who posted the picture, Nothing But Nets. Even if they make $20, that's two bed nets, that's potentially 8 people covered. Imagine what could happen if 100 coffee shops across the country decided to do the same thing? Or 1,000? There are little things people can do every day that can add up to a big difference - and that's what we're trying to do over here. ;)
