Thank you so much for this wonderful story! I chose those prompts because I thought they could be used in so many different ways, and I loved what you did with them.

Your characterization of Lincoln was great. He was the rough youth, yo-yo jailbird, just struggling to get by. And all he wanted was a night to himself. His dream made me think he might be the mentally unstable one for a little while.

Then to find Michael in such bad shape. He actually slit his own throat in an attempt to breath. That was a great way to demonstrate his mental state and dependence on his brother.

The mental distance and Michael hiding out in his mind would be so scary for the older brother to deal with. A type of distance Lincoln didn't have any control over, coulnd't effect. I love that concept.

An empty promise, he knew. But the only one he could give.--Of course! What a tremendous responsibility for him. There really is no way to give this Michael what he wants or needs ( ... )

I really enjoyed this. Your characterization of Lincoln is right on spot and you perfectly convey how helpless he can feel regarding Michael's issues.
Great story.

Oh my gosh, this was so heartbreakingly them that I shed a few tears. You grabbed me right from the start with Linc decking a snarky employer (I've actually imagined scenarios like that with Linc in a few of my fics) and his release from prison. You did an excellent job of showing how on edge he is while he tries to enjoy his new found freedom, like he's rebelling against his responsibilities because he doesn't want to think about how he's going to eventually screw up against with Michael.

Then, the scene where he does find Michael is full of desperation and fear. I certainly didn't expect it and you did a very good job of pulling us along, beyond the shock of the moment, to what Lincoln tries to do to make it all better. Michael's so fragile that it's almost hard to reconcile PB Michael to your version but you showed us that he was there in his sad personality and independent exterior.

You made me want to hug them both until they were better again. Thank you!

This was painful! Poor, neurotic, fragile and skinny Michael?!! He's a lot different from the Michael we know in the show but since he was just seventeen here and had been in the foster-care system (maybe Pershing Avenue wasn't the only 'incident', huh?) a screwed-up, self-harming Michael so dependent on his delinquent brother isn't that big a leap.

You captured his feeling of despair and his inability to breathe until he drew blood so well and Lincoln's feelings of almost-helplessness was brilliantly done!

It was heartbreaking but still an utterly compelling read!
