WILMA at PBA

Oct 25, 2005 15:00

I'm not going to lie, this storm was pretty freaking scary to be in, especially when you're staying at the dorm at PBA. Currently the only buildings really unaffected are Baxter and ODP. Towers and Weyenberg had their roofs torn off. Rinker and Johnson did ok, with just a few broken windows. Samaritan Gardens lost a wall. I'm currently at the Palm ( Read more... )

Holy CRAP!

PBA made it sound like there was no damage. There's plenty of damage!

okay- so....everybody is supposed to come back Thursday night....to THIS? I'm confused. are they paying for hotel rooms? Or do they expect the people in Weyenberg and Towers to just...sleep under the stars?

Hey, the only reason I'm able to post things is because I'm at the Palm Beach Post, where they have a generator. Palm Beach got pretty rocked, to say the least. The powerlines are down on the ground almost the entire length of Dixie Highway ( ... )

hey- don't worry, Jade, I called Sherry. She said there's a little leaking of the south side of the building, but essentially everythings okay. Your stuff is fine. No electricity though, so if you have any food, it's going to be spoiled.

We're fine here in Lakeland. It was a joke here. a strong breeze followed by cold air. We plan on coming back Thursday morning.

(*hugs*)

That looks how it sounded. I stay in royal palm and our doors were about to fly open, as was the garage.

I read down the page. you were at work? woah...i just got hired there and i haven't been able to start yet because of Wilma. Then today of all days the busses aren't out and i have no transpertation. I wonder if they'd mind.

those are really great pictures. Can I link some to show my friends? they don't believe me about how scary it was.

Yeah, go ahead and link away. If you want to save them and upload them somewhere else, that would be fine too. That'd probably help my bandwidth a bit.

Anyways, I have over 200, I just haven't been able to upload them all from work here at the Post.

Hey how is Baxter? I live one the fourth floor on the side that faces ODP. Oh and was there any flooding that you know of. I would have expected it especially on the first. Are people gonna come back to their stuff being ruined?

Like I mentioned earlier, Baxter and ODP are perfectly fine. There was MINOR flooding on the south side of some of the buildings, mainly just a little water getting in through the window, but just enough to make the carpet damp. I didn't go into baxter, but it looks fine to me.

Again, the evacuation today meant that nobody is allowed back until 3pm on Sunday. Apparently 3 rooms in Weyenberg are uninhabitable, and Towers roof should be getting worked on within the next 24 hours.

Enjoy your Evacucation!

Somehow we survived. Me and Anrew held on tight and made it through. Ok so i really dont have live journal but i want to comment on any questions people have. No great new news... still come back on Sunday at 3 (unless that changes... keep checking the website and phone number.. they will be back up tomorrow). Damage questions?? Ask me or Anrew. We are the answer guys. I seem to somehow be the focus of alot of these pictures. In no way do i condone running around shirtless in a hurricane. haha.

Do you have any more pictures of Samaritan Gardens? I live in one of the north easternmost apartments that I know was badly damaged but it'd be nice to see just how bad. Thanks!

I took some video of it and i am not sure if Anrew has a whole lot more pics of it, but we know there are rumors of closing Samaritan Gardens. Not sure if these are true yet, but we will let you know when we know. If they do close them, then you will probably know first because Res Life will be bumping you to a different dorm and contact you about it. But either way we will let you know if we hear anything.
