FIC: "JLA: Necessary Force" (Part 6)

May 08, 2008 18:58

Hello, dear (and extraordinarily patient and loyal) readers!

My sincerest apologies that I haven't posted another part to this story since ... erm, December.  *ducks*  It wasn't my intention to leave such a long gap, but things in RL just seemed to keep cropping up and getting in the way of writing and posting.  At any rate, here is the sixth part ( Read more... )

superman, necessary force, fic, jla, batman

You evil, evil woman! Leaving us there! :)

I enjoyed Batman's conversation with the young mercenary, and got a chill as we discovered that it was all a trap.

Ubermensch, eh? Why am I thinking Ultraman when I hear that? LOL! Though he's not smart enough to be Ayestrom, I dare say.

I also liked Batman's conversation with J'onn. J'onn's not fooled! He knows who's primarily on Bruce's mind. :)

Hurry up with the next chapter, will you? :)

I will certainly do my best! (I do feel like I need to get a move on with writing the rest of this story, with a deadline of the end of summer, what with the new job and all it'll involve starting then ... hmmm. I'll certainly try!)

*chuckle* No, I have to tell you that the Ubermensch is not Ultraman, although I do think they have several characteristics in common, come to think of it! (some nasty characteristics ... )But our pal Ayestrom IS indeed a very clever cookie, so you're right in your assessment.

Glad you liked the various conversations in this part! And nope, J'onn's a clever cookie himself, so there'd be no fooling the Martian! (no matter what Bruce thinks ....)

Thank you again, Brady, for being such a staunch and patient supporter of this story, and I will get to work on the next part!

Cheers!

Pax :-)

oooooooo... Damn cliff hangers :(

Great installment, It's really building up the intensity. I'm getting almost as worried as Bruce is about Clark.

With an ending like that the next part will have to be up soon, Please?

I'm certainly working on it! I do promise that it won't be even half as long a time before the next part is out - and probably sooner. I'll be done soon on the next part, actually - it's just that I have so many (too many) real life demands on my time and energy, and not enough internet access of my own. But I'll go to every effort to make it soon - and am aiming for next week! (I'll try my best!)

And yes, cliffhangers really are nasty things sometimes! Not every part ends with one, but it is rather nice to know that they perk interest in continuing to read!

(and, heh, yes, you SHOULD be a bit worried about Clark ... heh heh ...)

Thanks for your inititial comment on Part 5, Genclay, and for your comment and interest here! Welcome to the story!!

:-)

First note: "magnetoscope-oculars" is a wonderful term. :)

I really liked Etienne here, and how you showed his conversation with Batman progressing. It's rare we get to see Batman really interrogate someone (not in the euphemistic sense, but in the sense of seriously try to get information out of them) either in fanon or canon, because it takes time to show the relationship between the two developing. So I really liked how you got us to understand Etienne's motivations and personality bit by bit so it seemed realistic when he started giving information--not from simple fear, but because Batman got through to him--the only truly effective kind of interrogation.

“And just what is Superman’s current status?”

Batman scowled. “I wasn't thinking of him, but of possible hostage casualties should the situation turn ugly.”

Only Batman would try to tell J'onn what he was or wasn't thinking of. :) I do love your J'onn here, and I giggled with shock at this exchange:

“Even," J'onn continued implacably, "if we must ( ... )

I hear you about seeing the JLA interact with regular people! It doesn't happen that often and it's always fun to see--although I think very hard to write realistically, which is part of what I really liked about this chapter. And yeah, the interrogation...you could probably have cut corners, but I'm glad you didn't! It made it a lot more intense.

I'm still giggling about J'onn! I agree, I love the image of him deliberately trying to rattle Batman just to give him something to focus on beyond his worries. I loved him here...

Thanks, Jen! And there will certainly be more of J'onn coming up. I have to admit, he kind of caught me off guard and in his usual innocuous and rather sly way, unobtrusively demanded to be a bigger part of this story than what I'd originally intended. Weird ( ... )

*pets Bruce* *worries for Clark*

Batman scowled. “I wasn't thinking of him, but of possible hostage casualties should the situation turn ugly.”

Like everyone else, I loved this line. :)

I hope there is more soon! :D

There indeed will be more, very soon! Thank you very much, Star, for your being willing to come back and read more after such a long hiatus! Muchly appreciated.

Yes, Bruce needs petting, and Clark definitely needs worrying about. *wicked cackle* I'm afraid it's going to get worse for them both before it gets better. ;-)

Yes, Batman is the king of denial here, and yet, we all know he's not really fooling anyone. (and certainly not J'onn J'onzz!)

Thanks again, and more will be up soon! *hugs*

May I have a translation of the French if possible? I did understand a lot from the context but not all of it. I'd especially like the translation of where Batman is asked his identity. And is it true in French he's called "Mouseman"? 'Cos woah! Plus LOL. I take it in Canada you learn French in High School and probably Primary School even if not in Quebec (I did see "Degrassi Junior High" years ago). Actually Degrassi made me realise you guys had a decent English class too (at the time). Unlike here in Australia where grammar wasn't tested. Nor studied that consistently and we didn't have a text book either. Which would be useful. Sorry for the rant. By the way I look forward to more. Although I know you're going to hurt Superman. Meanie. But I hope Batman will help him. ;-)
