the sounds of harvest

This morning on my run, I could hear the rumbling engine of a knocker far off in the distance. The almonds are on the ground. They are about a week late because the weather has yo-yo'd between cool and hot (highs in the mid80s - triple digit temps - crazy weather!). The trees are confused. The walnuts will harvest in September. My family's orchard

Poor confused trees! Yes, nature seems to be taking a real bashing in our lifetime.
Apart from the probs however, I loved your description of where you are. It makes me feel and taste autumn and see it's colours. Autumn is my favourite season. I love the colours, the light, the spounds the nuts, the fruits - everything. Funnily enough my 2 older kids were born in autumn and all the lovely memories of them as babies is very closely linked to autumn.
