When I travel for work I can expense the cab ride to JFK, so I use a local car service. Normally, they are pretty reliable. But when I left my building at 7pm to catch the cab, it wasn't there. I phoned the service and asked them if it was on its way ( Read more... )

How can one discern whether God wants one to demand things, not demand things, or only demand certain kinds of things? There is no feedback, unless you count personal faith and instinctive belief, which vary so much from person to person that it seems impossible for any group of independent thinkers to determine on what rule God has for what you can ask for.

At first I thought you were just writing an interesting story that had happened to you, but when you mentioned Katie almost having convinced you it was wrong to pray for favors, I began to think this aspect of religion, which I believe cannot have a real resolution, is a practical matter of debate for you. How serious are you, and what is it for?

i'm in a writing class right now and this story reminded of something one of the more advanced writers would put up - you should submit it somewhere, it's really well written!

it may be wrong that that is my focus, as opposed to content. but it's the great form that makes me take the content seriously, here, and it did engage me on the question of faith and prayer and their purpose.
