WorldCon and Hugos

Jan 29, 2010 07:38

The 2010 Worldcon is being held here in Melbourne and our community has a great chance to internationally recognise the best work from Australia's best authors.

Nominations for the Hugo Awards are open until March 13. You can help by nominating your favourite Australian work, writers or artists from 2009. While nominations don't close until March 13, you need to be a member (supporting or attending) of Aussiecon 4 by January 31 to be eligible to nominate works.

I am eligible to be nominated for the Hugo and I think I might have a slim, slim chance for getting on the ballot with "Wives", particularly if I can get enough homegrown support.

"Wives" is a near-future, post-apocalyptic vision of Australia where woman are a scarce commodity and the lengths men go to get married. It has been described as ugly, brutal, horrifying, compelling, brilliant and a masterpiece. It won the 2009 Aurealis Award for Best Horror Short Story.

For those who haven't read it, would like to, and are attending the convention, I can make the story available electronically, so please contact me. (My contact details are here: www.paulhaines.com/contact.html)

Best Novella:  "Wives" by Paul Haines (X6, Coeur De Lion, 2009)
