It wasn't intentionally cynical. I just picture all those townspeople sitting around the television and cheering when a different "s" word was finally at long last said.
It felt like that, with a level of anticipation about how and when Rudd would say sorry in the speech. (Kind of spoilt by the release of the speech the day before)
My office certainly stopped for this (being Government it's not that surprising) and I suspect a lot of others did too. It's been a long time since a Parliamentary motion has got so many people's attention.
"It hits the fan" is just the name of the South Park episode.
I've just been looking for, uh, anticipating cynicism and your post caught me - even though I've heard much more cynical things since from work colleagues.
