MY LEFT BRAIN AND MY RIGHT BRAIN AREN'T GETTING ALONG

I have always been a night owl. I stay up late. Sometimes really late. I usually go to bed around 3:00 a.m. I've never really had a job where I had to be at work early, so even though I LOVE being up at 6:00 in the morning, I don't understand how people can get out of bed at 6:00 in the morning. The good thing about getting up early, if you don't have to do it, is that you can always go back to sleep if things don't work out. :-)

My brain science friend says left brain/right brain is a pop science fiction, though it may be a useful one I guess. I guess my point is that the categorization of writing as different from other creative efforts may be specious.

The only times I've had any luck writing creative-ish things have often been when I should be asleep instead, but at night. Something kicks in once I've transgressed the tyranny of bedtime.

I think Merrill M. might be talking about trying to tap into the subconscious by writing while not completely awake. I don't know if that works, but, if nothing else, I'm forcing myself to try to do SOME creative thing. And, good god, it's in the mornings. And, for me, that is absolutely unheard of.
