Let me tell you about my bat!

So, one Saturday, I was sitting in my room, innocently browsing the Web ("There's nothing innocent about browsing the web!" -Jake), when I see a brown blur in the corner of my eye. It's the bat signal! It indicates that a bat is flying around my room in circles ( Read more... )

Haha, I tremendously enjoyed this story!

I mean, I'm sorry you had to be all sleep-deprived and bat-crazed for a while, but it made a very good read.

I'm glad you aren't rabid!

I should admit that, after I decided that I should just get the shot and not die, the experience was less about existential terror, and more of an adventure. For example, the only time that I'd ever been to the Charles/MGH stop previously was when I wasn't paying enough attention and forgot to get off at Kendall/MIT, and I enjoy exploring new parts of the city. And I'd never been to an emergency room before. It turns out that it's not a big giant room with people being wheeled in all the time and Simon Tam saving people's lives and chewing out incompetent doctors.

Also, when they were checking me in at the ER, they asked me a lot of questions. But they were all about me, so it was like taking a test where I kept thinking "Ooh, I know this one!". It was really fun! I have been told that this attitude is unusual.

I feel the same way about health surveys. Narcissism meets "all my answers are right."

I enjoyed this story (immensely!) but am rather sad it ended with a bat beheading. I suppose if you had let it go, it would have just come back in by its secret bat routes...

Glad your epic struggle had a happy ending, and sorry if my bat-knowledge led you astray. And speaking of This American Life and dangerous animal invasions, you're just lucky you didn't have a squirrel: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/115/First-Day
