Is That a Frikkin' Marching Band?

Saturday was my first real serving shift at the bar. At 3 p.m., I had one table with three people. At 3:30, I had six tables with undecipherable piles of folks at each. HOLY EF. Thus began a seven hour shift of baptism by fire, man. After that shit, I got this. I

Tonight is gonna be pretty rad at the bar cause I'll be working an art show in the upstairs space. I'm psyched. Hopefully it's not so awesome that I buy art. Can't afford...

Damn. Service is never an industry I spent any time in at all, and the Chiditerod sounds both awesome and intimidating. Well done surviving.

I've never heard "to sack up" in any context other than sharing a bed or bunk with someone - usually in a nonsexual sharing-accomodations sort of way. (e.g. I believe I mentioned having no money for a hotel room of my own and thus sacking up with you, Cooney and Brendan).

"Nut up" is the term I am used to, and under those circumstances "Ovary up" is the obvious female parallel. It does not rhyme as well with "...or shut up," and I have seen the term "nut up" used by women (because masculine is still tiresomely default in the future *sighroll*). I would love to see them used interchangeably by all sexes, but I would also like to ride into glory on the back of a pegacorn, throwing lightning down on the heads of fools, too...

I've heard shack up when staying with someone, but not noticed the term sack up.

Yeah, I usually do use male terms like: sack up, pull your balls out of your purse ... or whatever, but I think I'm going to start getting creative and start making up my own female counter terms. It'll be a hoot.

I heartily endorse this!

Shack up, to me, usually means either moving in with your lover or spending a lot of time over their place.

I wonder if the difference is regional or some other folkway...

I do love the Civil Wars, and you are absolutely right: I loved "When the Dust Settles," too.

Mad props to you for the bar work. Seriously. Keeping things straight and keeping people happy and doing six things at once . . . mad props.
