If one were, somehow, bereft of a proper Cramps education, what would you suggest as a starting point?

Three best starter off albums for The Cramps:

Smell of Female - It's one of the best live albums I've ever heard.

Big Beat from Badsville - Late era (2001) album that spawned some awesome music videos. Dirty, dirty fun.

Songs the Lord Taught Us - Their debut album from '79. "Fever" and "I was a Teenage Werewolf" alone make it effin worth the price of admission.

:)

I am addicted to their cover of "Fever." One of my incentives to see Near Dark (1987) is that I've been told Lance Henriksen vampirizes somebody while it's playing.

Thank you for this post.

Aww heck yes! The original Near Dark is a heap of fun. Bill Paxon's vampire character uses some overdone, but excellent slang.

Aww, Lux. I saw the Cramps a few times in the early eighties, and they were really, really good. I'm very partial to their Psychedelic Jungle album.

Yeah! Psychedelic Jungle is great! :: high fives :: To quote Mr. Interior, "You've got good taste."

I love these posts. You start talking music and it's like you're speaking some underworld outlaw slang. If I slashed you with a bottle-broke shiv, strains of pyschobilly would pour out instead of blood.

I talk about music and all of a sudden, people are twirling down the street in syncopated dance numbers, rhyming things like "liaison" with "raisin."

Personally, I like when you rhyme liaison with raisin. Besides the music in your soul is akin to howling at the moon and dancing in clearings at midnight. I dig that.

I love that their final lineup included Sean Yseult.

Yeah. She is a badass broad. I wished for so long that I had hair like hers. I think I still do.
