This web page, which I found via SCA-Today, is pretty interesting.

They talk about animals in Britain that are closest to the early Iron Age domesticate species. Some of them are quite gorgeous.

This guy is fantastic (almost fantastical)! :) It's always interesting to me to see the differences between today's domestic breeds and "heritage" breeds. A Laurel who comes to WW every summer here in NS (but I think he's from the Midrealm) breeds and raises period chickens. He brings them with him and they are wonderfully different as well!

I love the heritage breeds of animals as well as vegetables. I worry about our lack of genetic diversity, as much as a vulnerability as well as the lack of diversity of taste!
