One thing she missed in ragards to similarities between Pearl Harbor and 9/11 - neither was really a surprise to some people. My Great-Aunt was an Admrial's daughter at the time, and later married a Civil Servant who was stationed at Pearl Harbor (my Great-Uncle) and she told me that the question about Pearl Harbor wasn't IF, it was WHEN.
My Father volunteered for the draft right after Pearl Harbor. I had a big insight into his character on 9/11.
My dad says the same about Pearl, where he was not stationed, but his boat was doing resupply missions between Alameda and Pearl before the attack.
All the experts I worked with in the civilian security world and at the defense university expected a major physical attack linked to a cyber attack sometime between September and Christmas.
My generation is the only one in my family on both sides not to be in active service. I was too young for 'Nam and too old for anything since. Plus being female. I do understand that feeling, viscerally, altho I sure don't want Duncan to go out and die in something as poorly understood as our current situation.
in 2001: I was planning to fly on the 12th to a conference on the 13-15 where the subject of my paper was the likelihood that we were looking the wrong way; expecting only cyber attacks was wrong, because all the evidence pointed to a concerted massive physical attack followed by a large, disabling cyber event. The data I was basing my paper on was available online from the Defense University, various college computer and security departments and research papers, and FBI info (much of which isn't available online anymore, btw). Mr. Berger's staff, folks from the FBI, and a bunch of other folks were the people who were coming to the conference to try and figure out what our best next steps in convincing the administration of our concerns, and that was the real agenda for the seminar.
