Harry Potter!!! (NO Spoilers)

Duncan and I went to see the new HP movie at a matinée today, and we really, really liked it. I'd gladly see it again (if matinées prices hadn't gone up to $7 dollars). As rustmon said, it flows well, it does a good job of cutting through a 3" book to keep the main storyline intact and at the same time pull in enough little details to keep you happy, and ( Read more... )

I think the last movie I took Corwin to was "The Fellowship of the Ring". It also was the first I took him to. He was a month old, and slept right through it, like he should.

There are movies I'd take him to, but the "Harry Potter" movies are not ones for him to watch. Not yet. I know that there's stuff in the "Baby Einstein" videos that used to totally freak him out, and those are made for infants!

I saw the new Harry Potter tonight, and really liked it. I think this was the first to take out the scissors and start cutting major sections of the book out of the movie, and it was a better movie for that.

I've been amazed, now that I'm a parent, of the young kids I see going to things. Lord of the Rings, for example. What *are* they thinking?

I once in a while took Duncan to see something I thought he was ready for, only to find out I was wrong...

Maybe they don't want to pay a baby sitter. Maybe they don't understand the movie (my guess). Maybe they didn't take their clue pill that morning. I just don't know.

It's certainly possible that some of those I've seen were honest mis-judgements, as you describe.

This makes me so glad I went to IMAX and paid the $16.50 when I went yesterday. Not just because IMAX is cool, but because nobody pays $16.50 a pop for four year olds, and while I would have felt sorry for the poor littles, I also would have been incredibly furious at the noise and interruptions because I am a fangirl. I expect people to cry at the end, as did I; but all the way through, omg.

Oh, since I've taken kids to movies and had to deal with them and even take them out at the first hint of a shriek, I guess I've learned to tune it out. I wouldn't have even noticed the kids leaving if the movement hadn't caught my attention in my peripheral vision.

My ability in the theater to tune out everything else is strong; it has let me survive raising kids....
