If you are reading this message you have arrived at our discussion forum either by a personal invitation, having been involved in another similar community or as guest browsing through LJ. We are delighted to have you and hope you'll join us in reaching out to and supporting our deployed US troops. If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to read our Community/User Info page (by clicking on the link in the navigation box to your left).
As you'll soon see, sending letters, cards and packages to our deployed Military Service Members can be an incredibly fun and rewarding experience. In the coming week I will be posting some additional links and resources to help you get started (and hopefully answer many of the questions you may already have!). Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any concerns or problems. You may use my e-mail (listed on the Community Info page).
For those of you that have already registered as a member, I will ask you to keep in mind that this group and the men and women we support represent an incredibly diverse range in terms of political views, religious affiliations, resources, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, etc. Please be respectful of this diversity. Although I do not mind constructive discussions, our main focus and our topics need to remain on being supportive of the courageous men and women that are serving our country.
Having said that, I'd like to take a second opportunity to welcome you to our Patriot Pen Pals Family. I look forward to your participation!
Thank you for your interest in our troops. Below you will find an informal application. Because of recent events, it is now necessary for us to use extreme caution in selecting prospective pen pals for our Service Members. I'm sure you can appreciate that safety and security continues to be a very big concern for our deployed military. Please understand that all information received will be kept strictly confidential**. Once your completed application is received it will be reviewed and you will be contacted. Not everyone will be accepted or be eligible. Until then, we encourage you to continue checking back with the Patriot Pen Pals LJ community for updates and help in getting started.
Please send the following information for consideration:
* Your first and last name
* Your LJ Username, if applicable (Please put this in the Subject line of your reply e-mail to help me identify it)
* Your U.S. street address
* A telephone number that you can be reached at and the best time to call
* Your birthdate or age (Please Note: If you are under the age of 18, it does not necessarily disqualify you for the Pen Pal program. You will still be taken into consideration; however, we ask that you participate with your family or you may get involved as part of a larger civic or church group).
* How did you hear about Patriot Pen Pals?
* Have you ever participated in/been a member of a similar support organization? If so, what was your experience with it?
* Please tell us a little more about yourself and why you would like to become a pen pal to our troops
Special care is taken in selecting our pen pals. We want to make positive that those of you that have responded are sincere and committed to the responsibility of keeping in touch with the Service Member that you may be paired with.
