The first thing Patrick said once they were outside of the theater was that he really did need to shower and change his clothes now.

“Okay.”

Patrick turned to walk home. Pete followed.

“What are you doing?”

“Um. Walking you home?”

“Why?”

“I need to know where you live if I’m going to stalk you properly, duh.”

“You’re a serious freak, you know?”

Pete took that as signal that Patrick was okay with it so he just linked their arms and began walking in the direction Patrick had started in.

“So, Patty, how’d you like the movie?”

“Shut UP, Pete.”

“Alright then, how’d you like the show?”

“It was... good.”

Pete laughed, “Did you really hate it that much?”

“Nah, man, you were good, you definitely had the crowd and everything…, it’s just not for me.” Pete at least appreciated that.

“So have you ever sung in a band, or does that voice only come out when you’re intoxicated?”

“I can sing. I just don’t do it that much. I play a little guitar for bands, some drums, but I’ve never sang for one.”

“That’s a shame.”

Patrick looked at him blankly

“No, really.” Pete tried be emphatic and hoped that had come out sounding half as sincere as he felt. Patrick didn’t respond though, turning his attention to the pavement.

Pete gave up the conversation and the two boys walked in silence, until they arrived at Andrew’s Hall, the largest freshmen dorm on campus.

Patrick slid his arm out from Pete’s and fished a key card from his jacket pocket. “Well, see you.”

“Oh, hey.” Pete put his hand on Patrick’s elbow, “What are you doing tomorrow?”

“Class in the morning, and then I need to get some work done in the library.”

“Okay. Day after?”

“I don’t know, but I’ll see you in lecture, yeah?”

“Yeah. Good. Right. So thanks for coming to the show and stuff, I appreciate the sacrifice.”

Patrick rolled his eyes, “No, really, it was pretty fun.”

“Really?”

Patrick nodded at him. “Mmhm.”

“Good.” Pete moved his hand up to Patrick’s shoulder and started to lean in slowly.

“What the fuck.” Patrick’s eyes widened and his body tensed. “What the fuck are you doing?”

“Uh. Kissing you goodnight?”

Patrick started to flush red. “What the fuck, Pete?” Uncertainty passed across his face as he backed out of Pete’s grasp and closer to the door. “What makes you think I’m gay?” Pete looked at him blankly, his mouth opened but no response to make. “Jesus, what, d’you think everyone wants you?”

“No, I mean, I figured...” Pete fumbled for words, “...I brought you coffee,” he finished lamely.

“What the fuck?” Patrick furrowed his brow and backed further into the door, then turned and quickly opened it.

“Patrick.”  Pete tried to catch the door, but it had already shut and automatically locked. “Oh fuck.”
