May 4 is a red-letter day in the history of the struggles of American labor, for Civil Rights, and peace.  Not only was this the date of the Haymarket Affair in 1886 and the Kent State Shootings in 1970, but it also marks the beginning of a new phase in the Civil Rights Movement in which Northern students and others risked their lives in the South.
