Faubus didn't just close Central High. He closed the entire Little Rock public school system. It's known locally as "the lost year".

Nicely written and striking photo - some of the best and the worst of Americans on display. Little Rock was important to me growing up because of a radio station that came on late at night called Beeker Street, I think, back when there were still "underground" radio stations.

No wonder so many horror movies take place in the south.
