The guy I was with is a terrific guitarist and a huge Johnny Winter fan. He had brought along a Sharpie and an album cover hoping somehow he could get an autograph after the show. We were parked behind the club and were walking toward the front entrance when I spotted the trailer. "Let's get your autograph right now," I said. So I went up and knocked on the trailer door. My friend was bowled right over-amazed to be one-on-one with his idol. I stayed out of the trailer; it was a bit cramped, so my friend got all the face time.
Later, he couldn't believe I had knocked on the trailer door. But that's what journalists do all the time, right?
