I hadn't thought about Steppenwolf in years - except occasionally when a song comes on the radio. While I'd be happy to not ever hear "Magic Carpet Ride" again, I do remember late-night AM radio playing cuts like "The Pusher." That was very wild for the time and place.
Not all albums age well - I have bunches of them that didn't.
The album version of "Magic Carpet Ride" has got some nice rhythm guitar work during the instrumental portion before the last chorus. And Goldie McJohn's organ playing is always worth listening to. That's about all the song has going for it.
