Your friends will support you and those who dont, can go fuck themselves ;)

I applaud your willingness to accept responsibility (as you should) and the balls to put your words into action.

I dont drink and drive, period.
If I intend on drinking when I go out, I find out who else is going and if anyone intends on not drinking and being the designated driver.
My friends and I will take turns being the DD and then we all know we will get home safely.
Maybe thats something you can also discuss with your friends.
Many times as DD, I have received free pop/water as well as snacks and the thanks of the wait-staff.

:D

Good luck to you at your upcoming court date.

DDs are the responsible way to deal with going out. One would hope that others can learn from the mistake I made and be more responsible. Dealing with a DUI is one of the most frustrating and demeaning things I've had to deal with ever.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Congrats on the new headspace. I totally agree that telling everyone what is up and what your plans are is the way to go - especially declaring in advance so your friends know not to offer / push / let you waffle.

I also agree on the "keeping it a secret leads to cheating" thing. Once it is declared it is easier to stick with it, and letting everyone know makes it less scary.

I sorta feel the same way about therapy. I keep it somewhat personal, but I don't make any attempts to really hide it if it comes up or is relevant to conversation.

I am proud of myself - I had bad familial anxiety that got in the way of social engagements, got it fixed, and now it isn't a problem. The people who still wrinkle their noses at me and go "eww, that means you are crazy" and back off really just let me know who sucks at being a caring human being.

Being open about it makes me feel better, and lets me just get on with my life instead of constantly worrying about what other people think or what they will say if they found out.
