Well, they're not paying for it out of pocket. The way it was explained to me (I haven't read the full article) is that the entire community will be paying like an extra dollar a year for their insurance plans. That extra dollar from all the staff (professors, administrators, facilities, police, everyone)* and the ~50,000 undergrad and grad students, I think, then goes to pay to cover the gender confirmation processes/procedures. it's not from a grant or from our endowment or anything.

I'm sorry to hear about your classes, though. ):

*I think. My professor told me they're covering staff/teachers as well so I figure it must be anyone who gets insurance through the university...? lol minor point really.

I mean, it's not even technically part of our budget, so it's not a budget issue. I'm sure the anthropology department here would sympathize with you -- they got chopped literally in half last year. I only know because when I was archiving some files for a professor I stumbled across a series of emails that were SHRIEKING about how unfair it was, about how many professors had been fired, about how much research had been cut, how many classes were lost, etc. THAT was a budget issue. it's honestly happening to everyone.
