It awakens something inside him, wild and ravenous, and he attacks. Jacob cries, pleads for mercy, but poor Jacob, gentle Jacob is no match for him.
He drives unforgiving fists into his pretty face, not satisfied until his own bones snap. He stumbles to his feet, dizzy with power. Jacob's blood, his own blood, drips from his knuckles.
The knowledge of everything they are, everything Jacob has taken from him, swirls through his head like black smoke. It's meant to be, the blinding sun screams, and he screams back I'm meant to kill you.
Jacob lays still, innocent blue eyes swollen shut, and the monster turns its back.
(asking, Walt and Charlie Hume)
Walt worries about Charlie. He's the youngest in their group, and he needs someone to look after him.
Walt recruits him to help set up the tents, offers him a smile, asks him about himself. Charlie mumbles vague answers until Walt asks about his parents, and Charlie snaps.
"Will you stop asking me dumb questions?"
"Sorry, man, I just--"
"I know, you just want to help. I don't need your help, or your advice, or whatever. So just leave me alone."
Charlie stomps away, and Walt glares at the rope in his hands. Not for the first time in his life, he wishes he were John Locke instead.
