I LIKE THIS ONE. What a cool idea for a pairing, they work so well here. Especially this line:

"Ilana," thick on his tongue, makes him think of faraway places; an escape from blood-stained scrubs, a family built from mutual disappointment.

I adore sideways!Jack, and you capture him perfectly here. :D

Thanks so much! I love writing with a designated word count; it really makes you think about what you're trying to say, and which words are most important to the story. I really appreciate the feedback. :)
