This is so, SO awesome -- I love the back-and-forth between the characters here, how they know just the right ways to push at each other, how much it takes for Ellie to admit her feelings to herself. It's too bad that more Charles/Eloise fic doesn't seem to pop up that often because they really are fascinating, especially in the way their relationship can be so loving but so antagnostic.

In particular I adore these lines -- I have a destiny, she says haughtily.

Charles sighs and cups her chin. We could make our own destiny, Ellie.

She shoves her fists into his hair as he kisses her gently, clutching him tightly, wishing she didn't need so badly to keep him here with her.

So fantastic!

I wish we could have got more backstory on them, because they really are fascinating. I think that's why Charles is always fighting so hard to gain or keep his power, because he was never one of the "chosen ones", and he hates being under anyone's control.
