Vintage Knitting Funkiness and the Urge to Write

Jul 18, 2011 13:03

As some of you know, I’m an antique dealer as well as a florist. Sometimes I buy things which really give me the urge to write a story. This morning, I came across a box full of 1960’s knitting and crocheting books.  Man, do I want to write a story where people get to wear these outfits!

I actually have a character in one of my stories who makes and wears Mr. Rogers sweaters. It says a lot about a man--or a shapeshifter:)

Oh my! Those 60s styles bring back such memories. But were there no patterns for knitted bathingsuits? I seem to remember seeing some, when my mother was browsing. They never seemed particularly suitable.

When my husband and I were going through the stack, he held up a photo of a girl in a tiny bikini and said almost the same thing as you did. I explained that it wasn't really meant to go in the water.

Later, when I was picking out favorites for this post, I couldn't find that one. I searched, really.

I'm wondering if he stashed it :)

She reminds me of Victoria Winters on the old DARK SHADOWS tv show.

Love the first three. Mr. Rogers...not so much. ;-)

I was actually thinking of the first couple. The last one is best saved for the nursing home years :)

What a fun little trip into the fashion-past. That Mr. Rogers is quite the buttoned-down guy. I appreciate the freer flowing spirit in the first and third pics.

I hadn't thought of it, but they really do catch the mixed spirit of the times.
