It seems like the split was on good terms, there's nothing in either statement that alludes to any bad blood. There are a lot of legal aspects that need to be worked out (contracts, rights, royalties, etc.) whenever someone involved in the writing or recording process leaves a band. I don't think the split "was a long time coming", or something they were trying to hide from the fans, I think they wanted to work out all the details before making it publicly known so it could be done as quietly as possible with the least amount of media and fan backlash.
The original Panic at the Disco almost always lied about writing songs. They lied about Pretty. Odd when they had nothing, then they lied about the original songs, then they didn't tell us when they wrote the actual album.
I never believed anything they said about songwriting anyway.
