What do you want to know about New York! Not only did I take a history course on it, I've played characters who live there in RPGs so I've looked at a map of New York more times than a tourist. I've also been there.

However my expertise would be trounced by someone who lives there ;)

I just got back from NY. I have a really great map that shows the different areas. I also took pictures of the different architecture.

there are five boroughs of new york. the borough of manhattan is an island. it may also be referred to as "the city." it's a long narrow island, with the hudson river to its west and the east river.... um, to the east. and central park is kind of in the middle. to the west of central park you have the upper west side, to the east you have the upper east side. (basically - i'm assuming you don't need me to get super nitty gritty here).... the park starts at 59th street and goes up to 110th street. oh, for most of manhattan there are numbered streets going east-west. then you can go north-south along the avenues. (in other words to walk uptown you'd be walking along an avenue from a lower number street to a higher number street ( ... )

to clarify, these are the five boroughs of new york *city* - people in staten island, bronx, brooklyn, queens are residents of the city of new york. even if someone outside of manhattan might refer to manhattan as "the city." although in a lot of places you would just say you're going to manhattan.

how confusing am i?
