My parents and I got into this debate last night because of the DaVinci Code. My mom was all like "Well, Jesus COULD have been married".

All I said was "Mom, that's gross. He's the Creator. A woman who has sex with Him would be essentially having sex with her DAD (or other family member). That'd be like ME having sex with MY DAD. Incest! EWWW."

And she went "Ohhh...I never looked at it that way. You're right."

There's also a sound practical reason Jesus stayed single. anonymous May 18 2006, 23:18:09 UTC
At that place and time, political power and spiritual authority was inherited just like personal property. Any genetic descendents of Christ would be considered heirs to His power and authority -- literally Grandsons of God.

Could you imagine the inheritance fight over Who Is The True Grandson of God? Islam's Sunni-Shia bloodbath is a 1300-year-old inheritance feud over Mohammed's spiritual and political estate -- is Ali the true heir (Shia) or Fatima and her husband (Sunni)? And that was over the estate of a religious leader who claimed only to speak for God. Not an estate that IS Deity Incarnate.

That, of course, assumes any heirs would be allowed to survive long enough to grow up and kill each other for the estate. The Roman Empire also subscribed to political/spiritual power being inherited like personal property, and would cut off anyone else's claim to power -- "No King but Caesar!"

(1) Jesus would not be Christ [Messiah] if He had children. Because, this would violate one of the prophecies regarding His sacrificial first visit.

Isa 53:8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken.

(2) Jesus could not have had a wife because the OT clearly indicates that the declaration of "wife" takes place with the first sexual encounter. Ever notice the Bible speaks of a man taking a wife and rarely of the public ceremony of marriage? Well, anyway, if Jesus were to marry, it would necessitate having sexual encounter. But, by doing so, He would become one with a specific woman.

Gen 2:24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.(3) The union of perfect, Holy Jesus with an imperfect, sinful woman would result in a sinful, imperfect single entity. In this way, Jesus would no longer be the lamb without blemish, the ( ... )
