“Sofia?”
The blonde detective paused from stroking her lover’s dark hair as she rose up to look into her eyes. “Yes baby?”
“Is this just a fling to you or do you want more?” Sara’s voice held a vulnerable undertone that Sofia had never heard before. Knowing this was crucial point between them, she chose her words very carefully.
“Sara, this isn’t just a fling for me. I don’t want it to be. I want to be with you for as long as I can. I want to be the one you run to, that you trust…that you…love.”
Sara laid her head back on the blonde’s chest and mulled over her words, allowing a comfortable silence to creep in for several minutes before finally speaking.
“I want to be with you too. I don’t want this to be a fling; I don’t think my heart can take it if it is. But you know there are times when I will try to push you away. You know this could be hard in the beginning for so many reasons. I need to know that you’ll be there no matter what happens…I’ve been deserted too many times before by…”
Sofia placed a soft kiss on her lover’s lips to silence her. “Sara, there’ll be times when you will fall…I’ll always catch you. Just like there will be times I’ll fall…but I know you’ll always catch me too.”

Three years later, the brunette CSI smiled contentedly in her lover’s arms. To this day, she still didn’t know how Sofia had managed to break through her walls and love her so unconditionally. Now, as she was dancing with her new bride at their wedding, she decided it really didn’t matter that everyone else in her life that had told her they loved her, had abandoned her.
As Sofia pulled her closer and softly sang along to the song that, after much begging, had chosen for their first dance, Sara realized where Sofia’s vows had come from.
I will fall
And you will catch me always
Time has taught me this
I will fly
And you'll be there to guide me
Straight up to my heart's highest wish
I feel you close to me
And I know what love is
