Shannon hadn't gone to sleep afterwards, simply content to watch or hold Stella. As usual, their lovemaking had progressed into the early morning hours, illuminated dully by the grey light from outside and a lamp in the far corner by the couch. She literally spent hours studying her girlfriend every time they were together. It wasn't always Stella's body that the older woman was trying to take in, but often the way she held herself or the way her voice changed when her mood did. It was an adventure for the both of them.

Stella's arms were pushed under her pillow as she slept comfortably on her stomach, her hair sprawled over her shoulders and the bed sheets sitting across her lower back. Shannon shifted closer and shuffled down the bed, pressing herself into Stella's side to lean over the tanned body next to her, finally resting her chin softly on Stella's back just above her ribs.

She knew Stella had tattoos, but of all the hours they spent examining and learning and poring over each other, Shannon had never looked at the fading ink up close. A kiss to Stella's shoulder blade and a fingertip to the outline of the wings, tracing them silently as she tried to memorise each stroke and speck of ink that littered the tanned skin.

Shannon lost count almost instantly as Stella's muscles stretched beneath her fingertips, and the younger woman blinked sleepily in the shady light, her lips pulled into a smile when she spotted Shannon. A groan of satisfaction from the younger woman as her spine popped and she settled even closer, revelling in the burning sensations Shannon's hands left fleeting across her skin.

"I think I just fell in love with your tattoos," came as a whisper.

"And why's that?"

"Because they're so fitting. An angel needs her wings."

A year after Stella got those wings permanently imprinted on her back, she finally told her parents. They said she would regret scaring herself forever. Being told off by her parents made her wish she hadn't been so foolish to get a tattoo the moment she turned eighteen. Eight years later, and she still regretted them.

Until she fell in love with Shannon.

The only time Stella didn't regret getting the angel wing tattoos on her back was when Shannon ran her fingers over them, softly tracing the ink lines.
