Summary: A year after they left Mayfair, Katherine realizes what she’s known all along
As Katherine was looking out over the city from her and Robin’s penthouse apartment they’d bought 6 months ago after deciding to stay in Paris, she realized how truly happy she was. That for the first time in her life, she felt like herself, and she smiled.
When she and Robin had left Wisteria Lane a year earlier, she hadn’t expected this, she had expected that maybe they’d stay a week or two, and go back, together. She had never really had any doubt about being with Robin. Robin had seen the real her from the moment she had stepped into Katherine’s house. She had seen through her soul, through her pain, through her craziness and she hadn’t fled. She’d stayed, she’d cared, and she’d woken Katherine up from a sleep she couldn’t even remember entering.
She turned around and looked at her sleeping lover, how peaceful she was, how perfect in every way. Katherine remembered the first time Robin had told her she loved her, it was not long after they’d come to Paris. They were walking along the Seine, it was beautiful weather, and Robin had just leaned in, kissed her cheek and said “I love you”. And Katherine had believed her. For the first time in her life, she had truly believed those words, because Robin showed it every day.
It had taken Katherine longer to say those words, but the day they decided to stay, she had gotten out of bed, made French toast and said “I love you” to Robin, and she did. Unselfishly, real and forever.
Forever. That was the whole point wasn’t it? As she looked around the room, at the pictures on the wall; Her, Robin and Dylan at Thanksgiving, Her, Robin and Katherine’s new granddaughter, her and Robin drinking wine outside the Eifel Tower, her and Robin in London, her and Robin in Berlin. It was her and Robin. It was forever.
And that’s what she’d known all along, she didn’t get why it had taken her this long to realize it, because if she looked into herself she’d known that Robin would be her forever since the first moment she’d laid eyes on the girl. She just hadn’t truly accepted it before now.
She walked over to Robin, got into bed next to her, and as she could feel Robin wake up from the stirring in the bed. She kissed her girlfriend, smiled and said, “Marry Me?”
A/N2: "Forever that's the whole point" belongs to the awesome Joss Whedon.
