When the blonde opened her eyes, she found herself in her own bed, covered by a blanket. Silently she pushed back her long blonde hair and listened. Hearing nothing, she slowly sat up and frowned as she noted she was still wearing her skirt and blouse. Alex remembered the night before and nervously called out to Olivia but received no answer. They had made up hadn't they? Or, at least, stopped fighting? Alex got up and padded to the bedroom door and walked out to the living room. Olivia was definitely gone. With that realization, Alex unhappily went to shower.
She didn't expect Olivia to babysit her. She was a grown woman. Alex sighed and pressed her hand to the wall of the shower and let the water rain down on her. Who was she kidding? She had hoped to wake up and find Olivia's arms still wrapped around her but that, obviously, wasn't the case. Alex touched her scarred shoulder and bit her lip remembering Olivia's pressed there. That meant something didn't it? Olivia's kiss had been brief but most definitely intimate. Alex groaned hating how she felt. She didn't like it when she felt needy and weak.
The lithe blonde moved around her apartment clad in sweatpants and a tank top. Silently she took the mug of coffee to the table where her laptop sat and prepared to spend the day on work. Most weekends found her at her computer working. She really had very little else to do. Alex worried her thumbnail and glanced several times at the phone. Would it look desperate if she just called her? Maybe thanked her for last night? Alex buried her face in her hands.
The door unlocking startled her and Alex froze. Blue eyes tracked to the locks. Slowly she rose then stared dazedly at the athletic figure coming through the door. Olivia Benson flashed an almost shy grin and held up Alex's keys then a tray of coffees and a paper bag.
“ I got us breakfast.”
“ You should have woke me up.” Alex said a smile working its way onto her face. Olivia studied her and smiled,
“ You needed the sleep. Here, one bagel with cream cheese. See? I remembered.”
“ Thank you.” Alex said strangely touched. Olivia grinned and flopped down on the sofa patting the spot next to her. When Alex was seated she opened the plastic lid and sipped the cappucino forgetting about the cup of coffee growing cold on the other table.
“ I'm sorry about - reporting-”
“ You were right. I was protecting my job.If it was gone I'm not sure I could handle it right now.” Alex admitted.
“ Why did you stay away Alex?” Olivia asked needing to understand the details. Alex sipped the cappucino, collecting her thoughts.
“ Because I was scared.” she said honestly. Olivia nodded and waited for her to continue. Alex paused and fingered the fringe on a throw pillow. Olivia reached over and gently covered her hand and smiled as the blonde looked at her.
“ I didn't want to see you with someone else- or that you had moved on and forgotten me. If I didn't call- then I could pretend that we still had a chance.” Alex murmured as Olivia rubbed her thumb lightly over the back of her hand. Olivia's heart did a little flip flop.
“ You told me you were seeing someone. And since you've been back, you've been linked to a few people.” Olivia said softly not quite hiding her hurt. Alex grimaced then shook her head.
“ You were seeing some people yourself. Casey Novak.”
“ Nobody serious.” Olivia answered, “ Casey wasn't you. We didn't last long once our curiousity was satisfied. “
Alex glanced up at her, her eyes brightening,
“ We've got a second chance Liv-”
Olivia sighed and turned to face her more squarely,
“ We aren't the same people we were back then. Alex, we need time. We need to go slow.”
“ How much time? Liv- how much time do you need?” Alex asked both hopeful and saddened at the same time. Olivia shrugged . Alex drew in a slow breath realizing staying away for so long had consequences and nodded.
“ Ok, we go slow.”
“ But, I'm going to be here for you from now on. I meant it Alex, you can hold onto me. You aren't alone.” Olivia whispered brushing a strand of blonde hair back off of Alex's face. Alex wished she could believe her, she wanted to believe her but she was so used to things falling apart that it had become the norm. Somehow she didn't quite trust Olivia's words and felt the inevitable backward step.
“ Ok then, well, I've got cases to work through. And you probably have things to do too.” Alex murmured uncertainly. Olivia eyed her and frowned slightly. She had hoped to spend the day together. Glancing at the laptop and stacks of files, Olivia nodded and got to her feet. Alex walked to the door with her and silently watched the brunette reach for the doorknob. Olivia stopped and looked at her,
“ I'll call you later? “
“ Yeah, sure.” Alex nodded. Olivia opened the door and was through it.Alex slowly closed the door and frowned as the door was pushed back open by Olivia. Shaking her head, Olivia pulled the blonde into her arms and kissed her hungrily. Alex groaned and responded instantly feeling a jolt run through her from head to toe. Olivia gently pressed her back against the door and slowly explored with her tongue. When they finally broke apart for air, Alex looked at Olivia wordlessly. Olivia took in the light in the blue eyes and grinned sheepishly,
“ I can't believe you were going to let me leave here!”
“ But you said - “
“ Alex, don't listen to me, I'm an idiot!” Olivia muttered kissing her again.

Alex looked at Olivia and sighed as the brunette gently traced the scarred shoulder with her finger. Olivia bent down and brushed her lips to the scar puckered skin and sighed. Alex grimaced,
“ You're fascinated by it aren't you?”
“ Well, it wasn't there the last time we made love. “ Olivia smiled lazily.
“ Don't remind me. “ Alex sighed.
“ It's beautiful.”
“ You're kidding me?! It's an ugly mass of scar tissue Liv.” Alex argued chuckling.
“ It's not that big and besides, it says you're still here. You survived Alex.”
“ Barely.”
“ Sweetie, you're a survivor. We both are and look at us! All naked and sweaty....” Olivia grinned kissing her nose. Alex laughed and hugged her.
“ Who says I'm sweaty?” she teased kissing Olivia along her throat. Olivia smiled and squirmed as Alex's tongue played havoc with her earlobe. Gently, she held the blonde still and Alex looked at her questioningly. Olivia smiled and said,
“ I love you Alex Cabot.”
“ I love you too Liv..... always have....always will.” Alex grinned and Olivia smiled realizing it was the first real smile she had seen Alex give since her return. Olivia rolled the blonde onto her back and whispered,
“ You know, I won't let you leave ever again. “
“ You'd better not. Now, will you please be quiet and concentrate on getting me all sweaty again.” Alex teased.
“ Thought you didn't get sweaty?” Olivia laughed nuzzling her neck. Alex sighed and struggled to stay with the conversation.
“ I only get sweaty with you.” she groaned before she lost the ability to put sentences together.
