Natalia rolls the term around her tongue like a sip of wine, trying to figure out if she likes the taste or not.
Because this isn't the kind of person Natalia is 'friends' with.
She had those girls in her youth, Sunday school by day and brash by night, bubblegum and jump-rope and gossip.
And she has had those women in her working life, those ladies older than herself - worn fingers and sharp tongues, filled up with inside knowledge of every business room from other people's trash.
And she doesn't find Olivia funny. But she still has to fight the urge to laugh.
And she doesn't want to help Olivia. But she can't stop from drawing closer.
And she doesn't want to care about Olivia - even though she has Nicky's heart.
But Natalia cares, she does, and not just about some organ in Olivia's chest.
She cares about Emma.
I could take care of The Beacon, for a while...
She cares about loss.
I could take Olivia to the hospital, right now...
Natalia cares and she can't make herself walk away.
Friends... maybe we are, maybe that is why...
Natalia swallows the term and it warms her throat.
And she turns her eyes downward, catching onto Olivia's gaze - one part sarcastic, one part desperate - and Natalia can't look away.
Maybe that's what we are, against all odds... maybe that's what we were meant to be...
And Natalia shouldn't like Olivia at all.
But she can't help herself - she does.
