This might be the most positive print media I've seen yet. Also, five million just in Canada? Wow.
I'm optimistic for a U.S. release but I agree with vsee about it being a hard sell. Like I've said, American war films aren't selling here right now (although they're all about recent war[s], so hmm). Still, if it's marketed right, it could work. I'm still thinking indie cinemas (and there are a lot of them in my general area, so yay!). I've got at least two people I'm dragging along with me because I'm persistent like that.
No, I agree, I actually can't see it doing very well in the US - there just isn't that environment for big serious films there, as that is what Hollywood churns out. When a foreign indie does well in the US, it is usually a quirky comedy type (Juno, Muriel's Wedding etc).
It may have an audience in the rest of the world though - the UK may be a hard sell, not in terms of getting a distribution deal together (The Mountie is still very fondly remembered here), but in terms of audience, as generally our critics are more scathing and audiences are more cynical. But parts of Asia seems like a good possibility...and could lead the way to huge box offices if sold correctly.

It might also go over well in Australia and NZ, I'm thinking.
Even if it doesn't do well (and seriously? I don't think there's a lot of expectation that it will), a U.S. release means I'll get to see it again on a big screen. This is IMPORTANT.
