Rude had slipped the sunglasses off of his nose and leveled him with a sharp, brown-eyed glare. "You're my friend and you're going to kill yourself doing this, you prick."

Rude had quickly grabbed the bottle, barely preventing a spill, and he had taken it out of the other man's hand and poured the drinks himself. He had set the bottle back down on the table, picked up one glass for himself, and handed the other to Reno.

"You get as drunk as you damn well want; I'm not your mother," he had told him. "But just remember that you've got to be at work tomorrow the same as I do." He had tossed back most of his drink in one go, feeling the fiery liquid burn down his throat.

Reno's lopsided smirk had grown as he took the proferred glass of liquor. "A--" He had taken a large gulp. "--Not tomorr-are-are-oh. Italreadyistomerr...tomererer...tomererer. B--" He had finished off the glass and reached for the bottle again. "You've gottagotawork. I've gotta get outta jail free card."

Rude had had to hand it to Reno. The other man had been colossally drunk, but had still spoke with a fair amount of cohesion, and had still been quite aware of his surroundings. To be fair, his eyes had been incredibly glassy and he had seemed to be prone to sudden movements and incredibly broad gestures.

He had frowned, finishing off the contents of his glass and watching Reno go for a refill--nearly falling off the sofa in the process. "What?"

Reno's reflexes had swooped in at the last minute and lead him to place a hand fast against the table, preventing him from tumbling to the floor. He took the bottle and--with every bit of concentration he still possessed--poured into his glass, his hand shaking. He had been very proud that he had only spilled a little bit.

"Mmmyup. Tang always gives me January-ary tenth off," he had said matter-of-factly, upbeat manner drooping just a bit. Sensing that, he had hastily chugged his filled glass, then leaned forward to set it down on the table. But he had twisted his upper body oddly in the process, and a sudden flash of dull pain had struck his ribs. He had hissed an, "Owfuck!" and froze where he was, hand protectively pressed against where it hurt.

Rude's mouth had twitched at Reno's utter mispronunciation of the name. "Tseng," he had corrected, a faint hint of laughter hidden in the word.

He had warily watched the other man for a moment after the outburst and the obvious pain. "And you wanted to fight some more," he finally had said drily.

Reno had heard the crack and he had wanted to reply but the pain had seemed to have stolen his breath away. He had simply shut his eyes and remained where he was.

Rude had taken in the hunched over posture, the tightly closed eyes, the wincing face, and had asked, "Want me to look at it?"

"Lookit what?" he had mumbled through gritted teeth, cracking one eye to peer at the other man.

"Your ribs. All the cuts and possible broken bones you managed to rack up." Rude, crouching at the end of the low-lying table, had nodded toward the bowl of water, old 1st aid kit, and other supplies he had managed to find.

"Got mat-er-ya?" Reno had asked, suspiciously eyeing the old fashioned-looking spinning objects scattered across the table.

"Yeah."
