When, in the late 1960s, Canada decriminalized gay sex between consenting adults, legalized contraception and abortion (in, you know, some cases, as determined by a committee, but still), then-Justice Minister Pierre Trudeau justified this in part by saying that the state had no place in the bedrooms of the nation. And that's not even getting in to the unmitigated stupidity that is fucking around with the census :( Canada's ruling party is so horrid.

Porn is fun! Even when it's of questionable morality *evil grin*

The funny thing is, no one can locate an anti-census sentiment within the population. This whole thing has come exclusively from the PM himself; and some pps. are saying that even his cabinet advised him against it. It's just bizarre. And PM Harper wishes he was, like, Dick Cheney or something. Is v. scary.

I'm trying to answer this prompt on footballkink. It's not going so well :(

See, that's what I don't get. I always was under the impression that "conservative" means LESS government. But these conservatives are always trying to legislate what goes on in people's bedrooms.

Yeah, but they're also trying to ask less questions about how many bedrooms people have and stuff! So they're totally not being privacy invasive! Even when they're giving the police unprecedented powers to invade your privacy!

North American conservatives are just bizarre. They're also about being less spend-y, and yet they have a tendency to drive themselves into debt (not that CA's liberals are any better on that account). In this particular case, the proposed new census format would actually cost more.
